Why should I verify my insurance?

One of the requirements of the Loan Agreement you signed is to provide comprehensive and collision coverage, homeowners insurance coverage, or flood insurance coverage protecting the credit unions interest for the full term of the your loan. When you list Summit Credit Union as lienholder on your insurance policy, notifications of any changes to your policy will automatically be forwarded to Summit Credit Union.


If you have insurance coverage with the required comprehensive and collision, homeowners or flood coverage naming Summit Credit Union as Loss Payee/Lienholder, you may: Provide your insurance information using the Insurance Verification Form. This link will take you to our CUNA Mutual tracking partner web site.  Be sure to include your insurance company name and policy number: or you or your insurance agent can fax a copy of your current insurance policy to 1-800-847-3144, e-mail it to prodadmin@cunamutual.com, mail it to PO Box 238 Waverly, IA 50677-0238, or call an insurance representative at 1-800-366-2450.
What if I don't have insurance?
What if I don't have insurance? Since your Loan Agreement requires that you carry physical damage insurance coverage, homeowners insurance coverage, or flood insurance coverage to protect the financial institution’s interest, you should contact the insurance agent or insurance company of your choice making sure to name Summit Credit Union as Loss Payee/Lienholder. If you don’t obtain your own insurance, Summit Credit Union may purchase insurance to protect our interest in your collateral. The insurance purchased by Summit Credit Union will be much more expensive than what you can purchase. Your signed Loan Agreement allows Summit Credit Union to purchase this insurance and add the premium for the purchased insurance to your loan balance. It also allows Summit Credit Union to increase your payments to cover the cost. The insurance obtained by Summit Credit Union protects only Summit Credit Union’s interest in your collateral. The insurance does not protect your interest or equity. It will not provide any bodily injury or property damage liability coverage, nor meet any financial responsibility or no-fault laws. The insurance will not provide medical insurance, uninsured motorist or underinsured motorist coverage. The cost of this insurance may be considerably more than the cost of insurance you may be able to obtain on your own.
