WAYS TO AVOID OR REDUCE THE EXPENSE OF ATM SURCHARGES
- Look for the NO Surcharge logo on credit union owned ATMs such as the Cash Points ATM network. Cash Points has over 20 non-surcharging ATMs in the Greater Greensboro area and over 600 non-surcharging ATMs state wide.
- Use your ATM, Debit or Credit Card to make purchases at point-of-sale (POS) terminals at most gas stations, grocery stores, and department stores. Plus, many grocery and department stores provide cash back upon request.
- Cash a check. Many stores allow you to write if for a specified amount over the cost of your purchase.
- Organize spending habits to reduce the number of ATM withdrawals (i.e., Make larger withdrawals to reduce your visits; use your check or credit card to make purchases instead of cash).
DEBIT (ATM) CARD SERVICES
Debit (or check) card’s look like a credit or ATM card, but operates like a personal check. Debit Cards are different from credit cards. A credit card transaction creates a loan obligation, while a Debit Card transaction is drafted directly from your checking account.
In addition to being convenient, the Debit Card is a secure way to pay. It frees you from the problems associated with carrying a large amount of cash or the hassles of writing checks. Debit (ATM) Cards are accepted through the VISA network at many merchant locations, including grocery stores, retail stores, department stores, gasoline stations, and restaurants. You can even get cash back at many locations. Purchases made through the VISA network will be automatically deducted from your checking account after approximately three business days. Your statement will detail the amount of each purchase along with the merchant’s name and location...much more information than you get from writing a check!
Unlike a typical ATM card, a Debit (ATM) Card can be used to access checking account funds with only a signature! A PIN is not required to use the Debit (ATM) Card anywhere VISA is accepted. For security reasons you will need to keep the possession of your Debit (ATM) Card protected at all times. The daily purchase limit through the VISA network is $2,000.
There is NO CHARGE for transactions made through the VISA network. Debit (ATM) Cards are provided FREE OF CHARGE. There is NO MONTHLY FEE and NO ISSUE FEE associated with our Debit (ATM) Card. If you lose or damage your Debit (ATM) Card, there is a $5.00 fee for replacement.
If your Debit (ATM) Card is lost or stolen please call 1-336-662-6200 immediately to keep unauthorized transactions from occurring. After hours call (800) 528-2273.
Your Debit Card also serves as your ATM and Point-of-Sale card. Please refer to the ATM Services & Point-of-Sale Services sections below for information regarding these features.

DEBIT AND ATM CARD SECURITY & YOU
Keeping Your Debit and ATM Card Secure
Treat your Debit and ATM card like cash. Always keep your card in a safe place and keep your secret PIN a secret. Memorize your PIN. Never write it on your card or store it with the card. Never tell someone your PIN. And never let someone else enter your PIN for you. Report a lost or stolen card at once. Remember, your Debit or ATM Card can be used without a PIN to access the funds on deposit in your checking account.
Security At Walk-Up ATMs
Always observe your surroundings before conducting an ATM transaction. Park as close as possible to the ATM terminal and observe the entire area from the safety of your car before getting out. If an ATM is obstructed from view or poorly lit, go to another ATM. When possible, take a companion along with you. And, minimize time spent at the ATM by having your card out and ready to use. If you see anyone or anything suspicious while conducting a transaction, cancel your transaction and leave. If you are followed after making an ATM transaction, go immediately to a heavily populated, well-lighted area and call the police.
Security At Drive-UP ATMs
Keep your engine running, the doors locked and the windows up at all times when waiting in line at a drive-up ATM. When possible, leave enough room between cars to allow for a quick exit should it become necessary. Before rolling down the window to use the ATM, check the entire area for anything or anyone suspicious. Minimize time spent at the ATM by having your card out and ready to use. If you see anyone or anything suspicious while conducting a transaction, cancel your transaction and leave. If you are followed after making an ATM transaction, go immediately to a heavily populated, well-lighted area and call the police.
If you have any questions about ATM security, do not hesitate to ask one of our employees. By working together, we can improve security as you continue to enjoy the convenience of electronic services.
