YOUR CREDIT UNION is committed to providing you financial products and services to meet your needs and reach your financial goals. We are equally committed to protecting your privacy by limiting the access and use of member information to only persons that are authorized to have access or as required by law.
 
How We Protect Your Information
 
Our employees are informed of their responsibility to protect confidential member information and are bound by our privacy policy. They may access account information only when necessary for business reasons. We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect against unauthorized access to member information.
 
Information We Collect About You
 
When you apply for a credit union account or service, we collect your nonpublic personal information from the following sources:
  • Information we receive on applications and other forms;
  • Information about your transactions with us or others;
  • Information we receive from a consumer reporting agency;
  • Information obtained when verifying information you may provide on an application or other forms. This may be obtained from current or past employers, or from other institutions where you conduct financial transactions.
When Your Information May Be Shared
 
Summit Credit Union only shares nonpublic information for legitimate business reasons, with the ultimate goal of bringing greater convenience and more financial products.
 
We may disclose any of the information we collect, as described above, to companies that perform marketing services on our behalf or to other financial institutions with whom we have joint marketing agreements to provide specific products and services such as insurance services. To protect our members’ privacy, Summit Credit Union only works with companies that agree to maintain strong confidentiality protections and limit the use of the information we provide. We do not permit these companies to sell the information we provide to third parties.
 
Nonpublic personal information about members such as account balances or loan information may be shared and permitted by law under the following circumstances:
  • When such disclosure is in compliance with the law, government agencies, or court orders;
  • When a third party is verifying the existence or condition of a member account in accordance with applicable law;
  • When necessary to process member transactions;
  • When you give us written permission;
  • To share our experience on members to consumer reporting agencies such as credit bureaus;
  • To our attorneys, accountants, and auditors;
  • To service providers such as data processors, check printers, collection agencies, and
  • To protect against fraud.
Disclosure of Information About Former Members
 
If you terminate your membership with Summit Credit Union we will not share information we have collected about you except as permitted or required by law.
 
Disclosure of Information to Third Party Non-Affiliates
 
Summit Credit Union does not share nonpublic information with third party non-affiliates without having a marketing agreement with strict confidentiality provisions. Therefore, Summit Credit Union will not be implementing the "opt out" for members.
 
What You Can Do to Help Protect Your Privacy
 
You can protect your privacy and protect yourself from fraud by taking the following precautions:
  • Protect your account numbers, card numbers, PINs, and passwords and never keep your pin with your debit or credit card, which can provide access to your accounts if your card is lost or stolen.
  • Use caution when disclosing your account numbers, social security numbers, etc. to other persons. If someone calls you, explains the call is on behalf of the credit union and asks for your account number, you should beware. Credit union employees will have access to your information and will not need to ask for it.
  • Keep your information with us current. It is important that we have current information on how to reach you. If we detect fraudulent or unauthorized activity or use of your account, we will attempt to contact you immediately. If your address or phone number changes, please let us know.
