Important Information Regarding Your Shared Branch Visits

Effective May 1, 2025, a new security measure called IDCheck will be implemented when you visit a Shared Branch credit union in a different state.

Imagine this scenario: You're traveling out of state for vacation, to see family, or for work, and you need to access your credit union account. You locate a nearby Shared Branch and head inside. You approach the teller, ready to conduct your transaction. Now, there's a simple new step involved: IDCheck.

What is IDCheck?

IDCheck is a fast and secure identity verification system developed by Velera (formerly PSCU and Co-op Solutions). Its primary purpose is to protect your account when you bank at participating credit unions within the Co-op Shared Branch Network, especially when you're visiting from out of state. While primarily for out-of-state visits, credit unions in the network may choose to use IDCheck for all visitors, so it's good to be prepared.

Why is IDCheck being introduced?

  • Enhanced Security: With identity theft and fraud becoming increasingly common, IDCheck adds an extra layer of protection to safeguard your account.
  • Simplicity and Speed: The verification process is designed to be quick and easy. It involves scanning a QR code, taking a selfie, and photographing your ID. Once you've completed the process the first time, future visits will be even faster.
  • Privacy Protection: Your information is encrypted, securely stored, and only shared with the specific credit union you are visiting.

How does IDCheck work?

Here's a step-by-step guide to using IDCheck:

  1. Scan the QR Code: Look for the IDCheck QR code displayed within the credit union branch and scan it with your mobile device.
  2. Identify Yourself: The system will prompt you to enter your PACU account number and the last four digits of your Social Security number.
  3. Photograph Your ID: Take clear photos of the front and back of your valid government-issued photo ID (please note that military IDs are not currently accepted).
  4. Take a Selfie: Smile and snap a quick selfie to confirm your identity.
  5. Receive and Share Your Access Code: Once the verification is complete, you'll receive a unique access code. Simply provide this code to the teller to proceed with your transaction.

The IDCheck system will remember you for future visits to the same credit union. If you use the same mobile device and your ID is still valid, the process will be even quicker. You even have the option to start the IDCheck process from the convenience of your home before you arrive at the branch.

Helpful Tips for Your Next Shared Branch Visit:

  • Check Before You Go: Starting May 1, 2025, it's advisable to contact the Shared Branch you plan to visit to confirm if they are using IDCheck and whether it applies only to out-of-state visitors or all Shared Branch Network users.
  • Mobile Device Assistance: If you do not have a mobile device (such as a smartphone, tablet, or notebook), please inquire with the visiting credit union to see if they can provide a device for you to use on-site.
  • Call Ahead: A quick phone call to the Shared Branch before your visit can potentially save you time and prevent any inconvenience.
